Residency
Kamran Samimi
The Shangri La Museum of Islamic Art, Culture & Design is pleased to announce that Kamran Samimi will be participating in an artistic residency at Shangri La in 2020. During his residency, Samimi will be creating original artworks informed by his experience at the museum for exhibitions at Shangri La and the Honolulu Museum of Art. Displaying a strong sense of individuality and an interest in universal forms, Samimi’s work encourages the contemplation of identity and one’s relationship to the environment. This perspective is the driving force behind his explorations of change, connections and the search for the essence of all things. Samimi joins an impressive list of artists, cultural producers, and thought leaders hosted by Shangri La to develop new work, deepen community engagement and demonstrate the museum’s connection to local and global conversations and concern. He is Shangri La’s first Hawaii-based artist to be selected for a museum residency.
