Join us for a thought-provoking evening with the artists of Wehiwehi: A Gathering of Kanaka Maoli Artists Working at the Intersection of Indigeneity and Contemporary Performance. This event is part of a transformative 10-day residency at Shangri La, a Center of the Doris Duke Foundation, for a cohort of Native Hawaiian artists building solidarity and community as they individually and collectively weave together traditional and contemporary practices to create bold, new pathways in performance.
An in depth opportunity to see and learn about the work of the diverse and talented Wehiwehi performing artists, a two-part panel discussion will explore:
- The challenges Kanaka Maoli performing artists face at the intersection of Indigeneity and contemporary performance.
- Collaborative dreaming of solutions to foster expansive creativity and self-expression.
The discussions will be interwoven with performances by cohort members, highlighting their unique perspectives. Light refreshments will be served.
This public sharing is an opportunity to witness the strength and beauty of a community woven together through creativity, culture, and shared vision. Come and celebrate as each Wehiwehi artist brings a unique thread that contributes to a vibrant, collective lei.
