Artist Statement
Grounded in diverse cultures spanning the globe, “Krieger Pāma” is a representation of the culmination of inspiration and knowledge gained from my wide range of ethnicities. This piece is a depiction of a warrior’s garment made of shaped and manipulated fan palm leaves. Fan palms symbolize protection, and their shape depicts shielding and sheltering. In the Chinese culture, fan palms in courtyards represent unwavering strength and commitment to safeguarding heritage. Krieger Pāma is a neoteric, surrealist portrayal of a protector to this land, and a testament to the spirit of cultures that are firmly rooted in tradition, yet forever prepared and equipped to embrace the future.
Noah Harders
Maui floral artist Noah Harders uses natural found objects such as flowers, leaves, shells and bones to make wearable art that is part mythology, part avant garde fashion. Living in Waikapu, alongside family that has inhabited the area for generations, Noah is creating surrealist fantasy using materials collected on his home turf. His artistry is bound to his technical skill and appreciation of traditional Hawaiian art and craft. Noah’s artistic expression expands with his self-portraits that capture the energy and power culminated through process and inspiration.
